First Residents

The 1930 U.S. Census is a rich source of information about the first residents of the Broadmoor. Using the link provided below for each known apartment dweller, you can learn much about the person(s) who first lived in your apartment, including how much the apartment rented for; sex, age, race, marital status; education; birth place; language; citizenship; occupation; and employment.

Directions for Using this Table

The left column lists all found apartments in 1930. Not all apartments have been located as yet. If yours is unlisted and you have information on First Residents, please contact jmbuchanan7@gmail.com (717). If you do not have information, please check back every few weeks to see if there is an update listing for your aparment.

The second column links you to the 1930 Census Sheet where you can look up information on your apartment First Resident.

The third and fouth columns list the first and last name of residents.

The fifth column, or Comment, provides additional biographical information on First Residents. This information comes mainly from The Washington Post archives.

104 x Luis D. Alforo [Alfaro] 1932 Dir: "student". The 1930 Census does not record Luis D. Alforo as a resident of the building. The 1932 city directory, however, shows him residing in Apartment 104. Note that the Census does record Victor R. Alforo [Alfaro] residing in the building and the 1930 city director locates him in Apartment 607 (see below under Alforo, Victor). The 1932 directory shows an H.F. Alforo residing at the same address but no Victor Alforo.
